Gener was FABULOUS!

Robert took a tour with us to Mayapan and the nearby spectacular cenote and his comments were most enthusiastic:

First Gener was FABULOUS! If you want to book the tour I would HIGHLY recommend you ask for Gener. He is a great guy and a pleasure to listen to. He loves his his Mayan culture and knows it and its history well. Anyone can take you to the ruins, but he tells you why the ruins are the way they are and why they were built the way they were. Mayapan was awesome with only one other group showing up after we had been there about an hour. We were the only ones at the cenote and he took us through a small town on the way there and described everything. He was extremely patient with us and our questions. The cenote was beautiful and the swim was awesome. We asked him to stop a place for lunch and he brought us where he and his family often eat. Brought I right to the boat to drop us off even though he only had to bring us to the bus station.

AMAZING Dive Master!

Our first diving experience! A group of cruisers included two who wanted to dive - yes, actually dive, in a cenote. That is with the fins, oxygen tanks and all that. So we got a divemaster and set that up for them and apparently it went quite well! Read on...

We had so much FUN!

We are going to try and come back on Dec 26th

Can you see if the AMAZING dive master you guys found is available? It will just be me diving. My hubby and daughter will be with me too.

I cannot say a single negative thing!

Here is the happy group INSIDE the taco kitchen with some of the staff!

Jennifer and her fellow cruisers took our food-filled excursion to Merida and Dzibilchaltun, and they loved it!

I cannot say a single negative thing! We had an absolutely amazing time. David and our driver (I can’t for the life of me remember his name) were so nice and professional. It was the highlight of our trip. I will certainly review you on Trip Advisor. I have already given you rave reviews on all the Carnival groups I follow on Facebook! We look forward to traveling with William Lawson again!!

Reviewed September 2, 2014 NEW

We visited Progreso on the Carnival Elation on Tuesday the 26th of August. After hearing horrible reviews of this stop I began searching the internet for something outside the box to do. I stumbled across William Lawson Tours on the internet and I am so glad I did! I emailed with the company representative and explained a little bit about what we wanted to do. He suggested a tour that meant my wants and I sent a small deposit through Pay Pal and as easy as that we were set up. I received an email a few days before my cruise with complete instructions of where to meet and a map. Our guide and driver where at the meeting place as promised and me and three of my friends began our private tour immediately upon arriving to the port. We were driven in a private air conditioned van to all the places we requested to see. David, our guide told us all about the city and it’s history. We toured Merida, went to the large market, and then saw some ruins AND swam in a cenote! We were then driven safely back to the boat, with plenty of time to do a little bit of shopping and sip a beer! The cost was $130 a person and we felt this was very worth the money. Auto Progresso was offering tours which were cheaper, but you traveled with 30 other people and only offered one of the things we saw. If you want to see it all and do it at your pace, this is the way to go. Our price covered everything including authentic tacos and admission to the ruins. Our guide even paid for a piñata for my daughter because the vendor did not accept $$. This is a wonderful local company, that definitely has their act together. It was by far my best excursion ever and I have been to a lot of ports. Do not count this wonderful port out, you just need the right guide and William Lawson is the way to go.

David... a fantastic tour guide!

Sally and her group to our excursion to magical and under-visited Mayapan and the now-famous hidden cenote, a Lawson's favorite. They were very pleased! Here's what they had to say:

I wanted to let you know how wonderful our experience with David (and our driver) was on our Mayapan/Cenote excursion. Everything went so smoothly, from the pickup to the driving - we found David immediately and he made us feel right at home. He’s a fantastic tour guide - so knowledgeable about culture, history, and flora and fauna of the area. We all enjoyed his information on the cities and areas we visited. The trip to the markets at Acanceh was a good way for the kids to see how life in semi-rural Mexico is lived and we all enjoyed the fruits and vegetables that David procured. We were pleased that part of our tour fees went to support the local towns and communities. The Mayapan tour was excellent - David knew so much about the architecture and history of the buildings, and was smart in directing the kids to safe places to climb and explore. The highlight was the trip to the cenote; what a lovely, magical place to swim. I think we all will remember the trip forever.

I won’t hesitate to recommend Lawsons to anyone traveling in the area. It was a 5 star experience and a great value. Thank you so much for all your efforts in making it happen.

The largest pyramid at the site of Mayapan is very similar to the main pyramid at Chichen Itzá. Probably because it was constructed by the folks from Chichen Itza who left there and came to Mayapan around 1200 AD.

Angel was... amazing!

Lucas and his family took a tour to some Mayan ruins and followed that with a visit to a pretty, hidden cenote. Here's what they had to say...

Thank you for checking on us and I’m sorry for taking so long to respond... We had an absolutely great time!!! Angel, our guide, was amazing!!! Please keep him working with the company as he is awesome!!! The van he picked us up in was in great shape and air conditioned... We felt completely safe the entire time... The Mayan ruins were gorgeous and we had the place almost all to ourselves... I have taken the “boat tour” and this is trip was worlds better!!! We then headed to the cenote, and WOW... Again, almost all to ourselves... Only one other small family there... The was was super clear and soo refreshing!!! Angel had a small lunch prepared for us that was unexpected and very delicious!!! Angel was very cognizant of getting us back to the boat in plenty of time to board...

Please keep Angel working with your company as he is a huge asset!! We will be using William Lawson again and will be referring people to you... We will be adding a Trip Advisor comment as well... I am going to send you a few pics from our tour... I do not have the Mayan Ruin pics with me right now, but will send some of those soon as well....

Thank you, your company, and Angel for a great and unforgettable time!!!!

Sad to leave...

Just wanted to let you know that our family was very pleased with Angel and Jorge as our tour guides! We were sad to leave them when it was time to get on the boat.

Angel did a great job.

Susan and her group came to Progreso with Carnival and had this to say about their excursion with Lawson's:

Everyone in our group thought Angel did a great job. He had so much information and you could tell that he loved sharing that info about his home. We liked that he let us choose what to do and in what order. It was a very informative day and leisurely as well. We will definitely recommend this tour. Arturo was great also. Thanks so much!

Best excursion... anywhere!

William and his group of 16 arrived via Carnival and we also took them to the Mayapan & cenote tour... here are William's comments:

Thank you so much. It was by far the highlight of our trip and easily one of the best excursions we had been on anywhere. Everyone was very pleased.

The view from inside the cenote...

Really enjoyed our trip...

The magical cenote you visit after seeing the Mayan ruins at Mayapan...

Lori and her family came to Progreso on Carnival and we showed them Mayapan and a beautiful cenote. Here's what they had to say:

This is Lori and I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our trip with your company. Angel was a great guide and was very nice. We really enjoyed the mexican fruit that he shared and he was very informative.

Eddie was perfect

Jeff and his wife, after an excursion out of Progreso, had this to say:

We had an awesome adventure! The driving time was a little more than I wanted but for what we were able to do, it worked out fine. Ruins, cenote and Progreso food and shopping; a good combination.

Our driver Jose and also the guide (a.k.a. Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu) were great. Both gentlemen went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. They made sure we had plenty to drink and even stopped on a couple of occasions to pick up snacks with a local flair.

With his knowledge of the Mayan culture, Eddie was perfect for this excursion. He was very informative at Uxmal. We felt like we were on a college field trip with the information we received. Everything about the who, what and why’s of the ruins kept us wanting to experience more. He was very pleasant to speak to and cordial with everyone we came into contact with. Thank you for putting us with such a great pair of guys.

In a nutshell, good time, good memories, no complaints. We will definitely recommend your excursions to anyone we hear talking about travelling to the Yucatan and hope to have an opportunity to hop around the peninsula with you again.

Thanks again! Happy trails!

Gener was fantastic!

Chris says this about his recent visit and trip to the ruins with our super-guide aka Mr. Personality Gener:

Thanks for organising the tour. Gener (the Tour Guide) was fantastic. Since we have had such an excellent experience, we will certainly be recommending your company to our friends and colleagues in Australia & Great Britain. Please pass on our thanks to Gener.

This is one of several carved figures you can see at Kabah, just down the road from Uxmal

Birds and more birds! An absolutely incredible experience!

From the Carnival ship, a pair of birders set out with our intrepid birding expert David, and this is what they had to say!

I want to thank you again for arranging my recent birding tour. I had an absolutely incredible experience. David’s expertise was exquisite. He found us over 60 species of bird during the 7 hours or so we had, despite the rainy and overcast weather. It was more than I could hope for. I would really love to post some sort of review or description of my experience on your website. David mentioned that ours was the first strictly birding tour that your company offered, so I hope my review will help other birders choose you for their tours. Is there any means of me providing such a review to you?

Thank you again and I will be sure to recommend you to my friends and family. I will likely be back again myself!

Best wishes,
Eric

Lawson's Tour Far Better...

Elizabeth and her family chose Lawson's Original Yucatan Excursions for their day trip when they visited Progreso with Carnival las summer. Here is what she has to say:

The cenote at Dzibilchaltun - refreshing on a hot day!

The cenote at Dzibilchaltun - refreshing on a hot day!

Tour Review for Lawson’s Original Yucatan Excursions
Jan 05, 2014, 4:24 PM
Last July (Yes, it has taken me this long to get this posted...) my family went on a cruise to Progreso, Mexico and booked a tour with Lawson for our day on shore. I had been to Progreso before and taken the ship’s tours and without a doubt, taking a tour with Lawson was by far better.
I corresponded with Ralf before the trip to plan our excursion and he developed a tour that was perfect for our family. We decided to visit a local marketplace, a couple of cenotes and a small Mayan ruin. Our family consisted of our parents which are in their late sixties and our four children which ranged in age from eighteen to eleven, my husband and myself.
We took the free shuttle to meet Ralf and Angel at AutoProgreso (there is a front and a back to the building with a small market between them, if you get there and can’t find your tour guide, walk through the market to the other side where the taxi drivers park, we made this mistake and Angel had to come find us)
We drove to a local market and got to walk around and sample some of the local fruits and vegetables, drinks and food. We felt safe the entire time which was important to us because of a previous trip and tour that had given us a few causes for alarm. We ate pork sandwiches and drank local made juices (there were about four different types that we sampled) then we visited a couple of different local vendors in the market square. We visited a turn of the century church and was serenaded by a local farmer.
As we drove to our first cenote, Ralf was able to handle our multitude of questions and Angel stopped here and there to gather samples of leaves and fruit from local trees and bushes. We were able to sample and handle some of the most interesting and delicious vegetation.
The first cenote we visited was basically just a large hole in the ground filled with crystal clear water that looked like a filled cave once you were in it. There was a latter and ropes strung across the top of the water. There were divers there to dive into the caverns below. Our children had the best time jumping into the cenote and swimming. Our parents sat on a rock wall and enjoyed visiting with Ralf and Angel and a few other local people that were there to enjoy the day. I appreciated the fact that this cenote was secluded and not crowded as we were able to enjoy ourselves without dodging the multitudes that seem to congregate at such beautiful sites.
Ralf brought towels for us and had cold drinks to share as we climbed back into the van to head to a small Mayan ruin, Dzibilchaltun. I just began a new teaching job that included covering the Mayan culture and Angel was like a lifeline for me as we toured this ancient settlement because my questions were never - ending. Angel patiently answered EVERY one of them and Ralf was generous enough to herd our four adventurous children on to the cenote within the settlement that had little fish that liked to exfoliate the dead skin from your body which tickles tremendously. We joined them to cool off from the heat and relax for a while. Our parents took the opportunity to do some photo taking because the scenery is beautiful there.
We loaded back into the van, stocked with cold drinks and headed back into the city for a little shopping time before we had to get back on the ship.
If you are looking for an interesting, fun tour where someone else takes great care of you and all you have to do is go along for the ride, then book with Lawson. Our children are still talking about the great time they had and all the interesting things they learned without realizing it.

Best ruins, best guide!

Another great review from some of our happy guests!

I have visited Chichen Itza, Tulum and Altun Ha. Uxmal was my favorite. Very relaxed feel to the place and gorgeous preservation work. We hired a private guide company (Lawsons Original Yucatan Excursions) and had a most wonderful time with them. From the person who handled my planning (Ralf) to our driver and guide (Angel), we were never disappointed. My husband has limited mobility and we also have a 13 year old child. We were never rushed and the boy was never bored. LOL Angel was friendly, flexible and knowledgeable. Our vehicle had a stocked cooler with sodas and water and Angel even stopped after our hot day to buy us some local handmade popsicles (very interesting flavors). When I go back, I will definitely hire them again!

The Personal Touch We Were Looking For Was Provided

Janice and her friend visited Merida on her recent cruise to Progreso sampled food tried some cooking and even made her own tortillas. Her comments:

I just wanted to let you know how pleased I was with our day with Gener. He was very welcoming and an open book of information he shared with us about Merida and all of Mexico. I am sure all your clients are pleased with what William Lawson tours offers. The personal touch we were looking for was well provided. Although my tortilla making was less than stellar I had a blast. I will definitely be in touch again when we are able to return. There is much more to learn about your area.

Everything was Amazing!

Jessica and her hubbie came in on the Carnival cruise ship and visited the cenotes. Here are her comments!

IMG_3836.jpg
Everything was amazing, we were totally blown away. It was a culture shock to see the village of Cuzama, but overall it was a great experience that made us very grateful for what we have in life. And the cenotes.. OH MY GOSH!! Amazing, so unique and just right up our alley of what we love to explore. They were just breath taking, words just can’t describe how special the cenotes are. And Jorge was wonderful, a true joy and just so nice. Shepard jokes around a lot so I hope Jorge didn’t think we were silly Americans :)
Thank you again for everything, your business really made our trip special and priceless. The balloons were so thoughtful, that was very sweet of you, thank you so very much. We are definitely going to spread the word of your awesome business and review you as much as possible online. Thank you again for everything, we will for sure contact you if we are in the area again.

Y'all are the best!!!

Jen, who visited for a day from the cruise ship, booked a tour for her family to the cenotes (https://william-lawson.squarespace.com/the-chunkanancuzama-cenotes/) and had this to say about her day:

Horse-drawn rail platform called a "truck" takes people into the cenote at Chunkanan

The trip was amazing! Angel is an awesome guide! He totally put us at ease and we could tell he really wanted us to see the non-tourist view of the Yucatan! Angel went out of his way throughout our time with him. From making note that my daughter had mentioned she had ridden a horse before and putting her on a mini ride with one of the the horses at the cenote, taking pictures for us of our family as we played in the water, to explaining the culture and life of the towns we went through. It was great going through an actual Mercado.

We will definitely tell everyone about our excursion using William Lawson Guides! Y’all are the best!!!
Thanks so much and God Bless!

We absolutely loved all of it!

Carol from Texas and her hubby Steve took a private tour when they sailed in last month on the Carnival cruise ship. The two of them went to Uxmal and also did part of the Yaxcopoil hacienda experience, complete with a totally private cenote! Here's what they had to say:

Thank you again for designing our tour for us. We absolutely loved all of it. We enjoyed the unique feel to the tour and thought that our guide (Gener) and driver (Jorge) were excellent. It was very nice of everyone to surprise Steve with a “birthday tortilla”. We appreciate everything and will recommend your company to others. I have already recommended you to someone on the ship that is a frequent cruiser.

I hope we get a chance to do it again.

Carol

David was an excellent guide!

Kristen and her "boat people" from the Carnival ship in Progreso recently visited Uxmal and stopped at the Hacienda Ochil for a bite of real Yucatecan food. Here's what Kristen had to say.

Meeting Gonzalo and David in Progreso

Meeting Gonzalo and David in Progreso

Yes we all had a wonderful time. David was an excellent guide and we had a lot of fun. The best and biggest surprise were the cold peppermint towels after our stops! It was just so perfect and welcome.

I will of course endorse you and should we ever return we will call again.

Thank you.

We enjoyed ourselves so much!

Jessica and her family opted for the Chunkanan and Homun cenote excursion on their recent visit off the Carnival cruise ship. Here is what they had to say...

Getting ready to take the horse-drawn rail platform into the Yucatan underbrush to see the Chelentun cenote in Chunkanan

Hi. We enjoyed ourselves so much. It was such a private experience. We didn’t have to share or wait in line. It was great. Thank you so much. Our tour guide Gener, was really great also. He took lots of pictures and was able to beam them to my phone right then and there. I didn’t have to worry about taking pictures. Yay! Thanks again.
